12 Easy-to-Start Online Business Ideas

With today’s technology, there are countless super complex business ideas out there for genius people to create.

For the rest of us, there are also plenty of easy-to-start online-based business ideas that don’t require any crazy licenses or advanced degrees, so that’s what we’re going to be focusing on today!

For most of these ideas, all you really need is some free time, internet access, and a willingness to put in the work it takes to create something exceptional. We’re not saying that all of these are going to be easy to become wildly successful with, just that there aren’t any huge barriers to entry.

Event Planning

Are you organized, outgoing, and someone who likes to have a good time? From kids’ birthday parties to wind-up parties for sports teams, and even office and corporate events, there are always events happening and they always need to be planned.

It doesn’t take much to get started as an event planner. You can start on a smaller scale and work your way up. The nice thing is that every event you plan will be filled with more and more people who will keep you in mind for their own future events.

Flipping Products

This is a classic way to make money online. Remember when eBay was all the rage, back when it used to be more like a garage sale than a dollar store? You can still earn decent money buying things locally and selling them online or buying things online and selling them locally.

From hitting up garage sales to find products to flip online, to your local store’s discount clearance section, there are many opportunities. Something that may be hard to sell locally and thus hits the clearance section could be in demand somewhere else in the world. Keep your mobile phone close when you’re out and about and don’t hesitate to do a quick search and see what things are worth as you stumble across them.

Being an Affiliate

An affiliate is someone who promotes somebody else’s products, courses, or other types of offers. The affiliate doesn’t have to handle payment processing or order fulfillment, their job starts and ends when they refer the sale.

You can be an affiliate for Amazon and earn commissions by referring sales to anything on their entire site, or you can be a casino affiliate and earn commissions when people sign up to play, or any number of other opportunities.

Affiliates usually have their own websites to promote things, but they can also work on social media, through mailing lists, and more.

Self-Publishing a Book

Have you ever dreamed of publishing your own book? It’s never been easier. Kindle is the main platform to look at, but there are also others. You can write a book, upload it to the Kindle marketplace, and start promoting it all within a day.

Chances are you won’t start selling millions of copies overnight, but if you can tap into what people are looking for, you can try to fill that demand. Practical and instructional books do well, but there’s always a market for fiction as well.

Freelance Writing

With the growth of digital publishing and massive websites filled with content, and needing new content daily, there is no shortage of opportunities for writers. You don’t have to be a trained journalist either, you can write about whatever interests you.

Chances are you’re at least somewhat knowledgeable about several different topics. You can find websites that are looking to hire writers by approaching popular sites in your areas of interest directly, or by using job board sites like Upwork.

Copywriting

To take freelance writing a step further, you could explore the possibility of becoming a copywriter. On a per-word basis, copywriters earn a lot more than article writers. Copywriting is also a lot more work and requires a lot more thought, energy, and time to craft.

Graphic Design

Do you have a knack for design, or know your way around Photoshop or Illustrator? There’s a higher demand for unique graphics right now than ever before. From social media posts to banner ads, to featured images for blog posts, to creating high-budget infographics, there’s no shortage of graphic design being showcased by many of the world’s biggest (and smaller) brands on a regular basis.

Coaching

You can offer coaching services from the comfort of your home. From business coaching to life coaching, and even professional eSports training and coaching for you gamers out here. If you have a useful skill then chances are there is someone out there willing to pay you for it.

Working as a personal nutritionist is another opportunity that falls into the same realm.

Course Creation

Sites like Udemy allow you to upload courses that you have created a number of different topics and specialties. It’s like coaching in a sense, except much easier to scale up since you’ve already created your course, whether one person takes it, or 10,000 people take it.

This can also serve as a springboard to gain clients for a coaching business, as it allows you to demonstrate your abilities to a number of people, some of whom may be looking for a more personalized experience.

Accounting and Other Professions

Accountants and bookkeepers are examples of professions which can work remotely without too many bumps in the road. Of course, there are many others, too. Think about what you’re good at and imagine if there’s a way to offer that service on the internet.

The downside to service-based businesses is that it’s not as easy to scale as something like selling digital or physical goods.

Blogging

We’ve already talked about writing content as a freelancer for clients, but you can also write content for your very own blog/website. It’s not hard to setup a website, and you can make money in several different ways. For instance, being an affiliate, which we’ve already discussed.

Audio or Video Editing

It seems like everyone has a podcast these days. A lot of people edit their own podcasts at first, but eventually, as their audience grows and affords them a slightly larger budget, they’ll want some help on the technical side. The same goes for vlogs, Youtubers, and other creators.

If you’re skilled at editing audio and/or video, you may be able to start an editing business and find clients online. If you’re not sure where to start looking, think of the podcasts that you already enjoy. Are any of them on the smaller to medium side and could benefit from some help? It never hurts to reach out, even if you’re working for next to nothing while you establish yourself and improve your skills.

Conclusion

There is no shortage of ideas. Some people fall into the trap of waiting around for a perfect idea or planning constantly, but there is a certain point where you’ve just got to jump in.

Find something that interests you, do a little research and planning, but don’t forget to jump in. You can always pivot or try something else entirely. The internet is jam-packed with opportunities that are yours for the taking. There has never been a better time to get started, with fewer barriers to entry, so what are you waiting for?
